Many years ago the Egyptians and Greeks used wheat seeds as the smallest unit of weight. Arab people also used carob bean seeds to measure the weight of gold, silver and precious stones. This is the origin of the modern word “carat” commonly used today to describe the weight (and quality) of gems and precious metals. In gold, the higher the carat the greater proportion of pure gold contained in the metal.

Nicola has chosen the theme of seeds to reflect nature’s rich bounty, in gold and silver bracelets, earrings and necklaces.
